MICPA Elects LJPR’s Leon LaBrecque to Board of Directors

The Michigan Association of Certified Public Accountants has elected Leon LaBrecque of LJPR in Troy to its 2016-2017 board of directors

The Michigan Association of Certified Public Accountants has elected Leon LaBrecque, managing partner and CEO of LJPR Financial Advisors, as a member of its 2016-2017 board of directors. Throughout LaBrecque’s one-year term, he will impact the MICPA by contributing in a variety of ways, from participating in board activities to adding personal insight to matters of resolution and vision. LaBrecque’s appointment as a board director can largely be credited to his expertise in and passion for financial literacy, an invaluable and unique attribute that will influence the board.

Prior to joining the board of directors, LaBrecque had been a member of the MICPA for more than 20 years. He always felt the CPA was a badge of knowledge and discipline, as well as a substantial component in the world of business.

“CPA means you selected a tough path, full of math and analytics,” said LaBrecque. “It also means you are compassionate about your clients, you have a server’s heart, and that you want the truth, accuracy and reliability. Those values resonated with me and have continued to do so as I’ve built my businesses. I am truly honored to serve the CPA profession, and with my experience, I hope to provide some leadership in the areas of literacy, education and entrepreneurship. I come from humble beginnings, and I know of the art of possibility.”

LaBrecque aims to increase financial literacy across Michigan and inspire other CPAs to make financial education a priority. He says that money and money matters can be complex – in other words, “we don’t know what we don’t know.” The CPA profession personifies financial literacy. LaBrecque hopes to move the needle on literacy through the effort and collaboration of his fellow professionals.

“What might our state look like if we all became smarter about money?” said LaBrecque. “How would our lives look? How would your children’s future look? The vision is to improve our ideas about understanding of money, and I believe CPAs are eminently able to help.”
