Troy Police Begin Year with DUI Arrests

Troy Police made a number of DUI arrests in the early morning hours of Jan. 1.
- On New Year's Day, a 24-year-old Pontiac man was arrested on suspicion of operating while intoxicated, according to police reports. The reported stated that police caught him running in the snow after the car he had been driving was found overturned behind the Crooks Road exit guard rails at 1:19 a.m. The keys were in the ignition and the radio on in the car and the man smelled of intoxicants, the report stated. He was taken to an area hospital for minor injuries. The results of the breath tests are pending.
- A 24-year-old Pontiac woman was also arrested Jan. 1 on charges of operating while intoxicated and open intoxicants in a motor vehicle, according to a police report. The woman was driving 62 mph in a 45 mph-zone at 3:11 a.m. at Dequindre and South Blvd., the report stated. When she was pulled over, the officer reported smelling intoxicants. A water bottle containing intoxicants was found in the center console, the report stated. The woman failed a sobriety tests, posting a result of .08. In Michigan, .08 blood alcohol level is considered driving while intoxicated.
- At 5:41 a.m., Jan. 1, Troy police were dispatched to a one car accident at Rochester and Wattles. The 43-year-old driver, of Detroit, was found sitting in a nearby driveway, according to the police report. She was arrested on suspicion of operating while intoxicated 2nd offense, according to the report. Breath tests results were .14, which is above the legal limit of .08.
- A 24-year-old Grand Blanc man was arrested Dec. 31, 2012 on charges of operating while intoxicated near I-75 and Long Lake about 11:47 p.m. Police located the man in his car after a citizen made a report of a suspected drunk driver, who was seen straddling the right and center lanes and driving at variable speeds on I-75. According to the police report, the man failed sobriety tests after smelling of intoxicants and speaking with slurred speech. Breath test results were .24; three times the legal limit, accordign to the report.
