Dear Governor Whitmer –
Thank you for letting the construction and other outdoor businesses go back to work. That
should have been done immediately, in my opinion.
We got an estimate from an outdoor painting company during the lockdown, which has become
a lockout. The guy who came by said his estimating business was cut back to 25%, and his
company was shut down and would be booked until mid-July, adding time until the
lockdown ended. So they are probably booked till mid-August, and counting.

We need the upper exterior of our house painted – the paint is peeling on the trim. Please tell
me why a painter or pair of them on ladders cannot work safely while maintaining a safe social distance.
And please explain why we weren’t able to buy paint at Home Depot, which was one of the first essential businesses to open for business. Our local Home Depot now has Plexiglas shields around the cash registers, six foot markings on the floor, sanitized carts, and lets a certain number of
people in the store at a time.

I understand you are running for Vice President, but please have mercy on the small businesses
of Michigan and let everyone who can safely do so go back to work – including seating
in restaurants at one third the capacity, who will have a lack of customers anyway.
Thanks for listening and best wishes in your campaign for Vice President this fall. By the way, I am
working from home and very busy, unlike my many others who work for my employer,
whose factories are closed.
Sincerely,
Dale Murrish
