Police Briefs: Witness Thwarts Theft, Woman Arrested Following Knife Assault

Police respond to two assaults

responding at 10:21 p.m. Tuesday to the report of a woman who armed herself with a knife arrived to the 2000 block of Winter Drive to find the complainant had fled the residence. Officers took control of the scene and arrested a 22-year-old woman on suspicion of assault. Police said caller wasn't threatened by the woman but that he feared for his safety and fled the home.

Police said a second assault about the same time wasn't related to the call on Winter Drive.

Officers in the area of Rochester and Woodside stopped a driver in reference to an assault about 10:12 p.m. Friday on Woodside. Police said the 38-year-old driver, who was allegedly involved in the assault, smelled of alcohol and failed field sobriety tests and a preliminary breath test. He was then arrested for operating while intoxicated. Police said officers located a handgun in the glove box of the vehicle. The incident is under investigation.

Stolen vehicle recovered after crash

Police said a 2002 Dodge Durango stolen about 9:30 p.m. Sunday from the 2000 block of Lovington was subsequently involved in a rollover crash just before midnight on Interstate 75 near 14 Mile Road. Madison Heights police responded to the accident and found the vehicle unoccupied and the ignition damaged.

Witness helps police recover stolen property, locate alleged thief

Police responding at 10:28 a.m. Tuesday to the report of a theft in the 2100 block of Lovington spoke with a witness who told officers a man in a black hooded sweatshirt and Carhartt jacket took a backpack from a vehicle in the area. A person matching the description was seen fleeing east into the industrial area toward Robbins and Elliot. The witness followed the man and relayed information to the Troy Police Department dispatch center. Officers located the man near Lovington and Dequindre. Police said the man was arrested on suspicion of larceny after he led police to the stolen backpack.

Home invasion reported

Police said a resident in the 2600 block of Athena Drive reported that someone entered the home and stolen items sometime between 4:45-10:25 p.m. Sunday. The point of entry wasn't known.

Thefts target apartment complex, business and vehicles

The following thefts were reported to the Troy Police Department:

  • A television, laptop computer and cash were reported stolen sometime between 8 p.m. Friday-7 a.m. Monday at Leading Edge Logistics, 1960 Technology Dr.
  • Clothing was stolen from a dryer sometime between 3:55-5 p.m. Monday in the basement of an apartment complex in the 600 block of Kirts. Clothing was also reported stolen from a dryer at the same location about 2:15 p.m. Sunday.
  • A laptop computer and CD player were stolen between 7 p.m. Monday-6 a.m. Tuesday from an unlocked vehicle in the 1900 block of Sutton Place.
  • Cash, debit and credit cards were stolen sometime between Friday and Monday from an unlocked vehicle in the 2300 block of Hillcrescent.
