Prom Night Ends Badly in Troy for Teen

In one of several drug investigations, a man allegedly said he'd forgotten about a syringe he'd used to inject heroin a few days earlier.

Troy, MI — Prom ended on a sour note for a 16-year-old girl from Sterling Heights who was stopped for a traffic violation by Troy police.

Police stopped the 2015 Chrysler 300 around 1:10 a.m. on June 8 on East Big Beaver Road and noticed the odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle, according to a police report.

The teen admitted to police that she had marijuana in her purse, but a search of the car also revealed a bong on the rear passenger side floorboard, a marijuana pipe and several Schedule IV narcotics pills identified as Clonazepam.

She also “performed poorly” on sobriety field tests, according to the report, and was arrested. Multiple drug charges and operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of narcotics charge were pending.

Her arrest was one of several drug related arrests made from June 7-10, police said.

Earlier in the day on June 8, at 12:40 a.m., a 25-year-old man from Detroit was charged with possession of marijuana, driving with a suspended license and obstructing a police officer after he was stopped for a traffic violation on Beech Lane, north of East Maple Road.

The obstruction charge was filed after he allegedly stuck his foot out of the vehicle, preventing the office from closing the door.

Then, about noon on June 8, police were called to a home on the 1000 block of Rochester Road about noon on June 8 by a woman who said her son, 24, was locked in a bathroom and possibly using narcotics.

The man was cooperative and admitted he had a syringe in his front pants pocket, which he had forgotten about after using it to inject heroin several days before, police said.

He was arrested and charged with possession of narcotic paraphernalia.

At 3:42 a.m. on June 9, police found a 61-year-old Troy man sleeping in a van in the parking lot of the Red Roof Inn, 2350 Rochester Road. When police awakened him, he said that he was waiting for a friend from Livonia to arrive.

A search of the vehicle yielded a baggie containing methamphetamine, two glass stem pipes, three glass jars converted to glass pipes, a multi-colored glass pipe used to smoke marijuana, and a broken pipe that contained suspected methamphetamine in a black duffle bag.

He was arrested on charges of possession of narcotic paraphernalia and possession of methamphetamine.

Police were called to the Home Depot parking lot, 1177 Coolidge Highway, about 7:30 p.m. on June 10 after receiving a report that occupants of a 2005 Chrysler minivan were using narcotics.

Only one person, a 36-year-old St. Clair Shores woman, was in the vehicle when police arrived. She was handcuffed and detained, and a second person who reportedly had been in the vehicle exited the store.He was asked to put his hands on the top of the vehicle, and as he did so, he threw an object into the passenger side of the vehicle that police determined was a crack pipe, according to the report.

Police said they also found three bags that contained crack cocaine. Both individuals were arrested on possession of narcotic paraphernalia, and the female was charged with possession of crack cocaine.

Finally, three occupants of a vehicle involved in an injury accident on southbound Interstate 75 south of Coolidge Highway at 9:16 p.m. June 10 face drug and alcohol charges.

The driver, an 18-year-old from Hamtramck, admitted he had smoked marijuana and consumed alcohol, police said, noting he “performed poorly” on field sobriety tests. His preliminary blood alcohol content was 0.04 percent and he faces operating while under the influence of narcotics charges.

Also during their investigation, police discovered that two other passengers, a woman from Oak Park and man from Hamtramck, both 19, had been drinking as well. Both were taken to a local hospital for treatment of their injuries. 

The two passengers issued misdemeanor citations for underage possession of alcohol.
