Retired Secrest Wardle Appellate Attorney Michael L. Updike Returns to Share Holocaust Presentation with Firm

Troy, Michigan - Secrest Wardle hosted a Holocaust presentation at the Firm’s headquarters in Troy on October 23, 2014. Retired Secrest Wardle appellate attorney, Michael L. Updike and his wife Kris, both docents at the Holocaust Memorial Center Zekelman Family Campus located in Farmington Hills, served as presenters. Mr. Updike and his wife spent a year being trained as docents. Mr. Updike remarked during the presentation that the training he received “was one of the most worthwhile experiences of my life.” Mr. Updike serves as the current Chair of the Holocaust Memorial Center’s Speakers Bureau, setting up speaking and outreach programs.

During the presentation, Mr. Updike defined the Holocaust and provided a historical overview, explaining anti-Semitism, causes of anti-Semitism, and how these views led to the Holocaust. An overview was also provided of the history pertaining to the rise and fall of Adolf Hitler and the Nazi party.

The presentation ended on a positive note providing information about individuals recognized in the Harry and Wanda Zekelman International Institute of the Righteous at the Holocaust Memorial Center. The Hall of the Righteous provides an exploration of those individuals who take responsibility by acting in a moral and ethical manner, including those who risked their own lives to help save strangers during the Holocaust.
