Road Funding Compromise Bill Would Save Troy $4M

Governor vetoed bill in July; Knollenberg sponsors new bill.

(Originally posted Dec. 9, 2016) TROY, MI — Troy is due to save more than $4 million on an Interstate 75 expansion under a new legislation that passed in the state Senate, The Daily Tribune is reporting. Madison Heights and Royal Oak stand to save about the same.

Republican state Sen. Marty Knollenberg of Troy sponsored the bill, which is a compromise of an earlier bill that Gov. Rick Snyder vetoed in July.

“Current law forces cities to pay for roads that they do not own,” Knollenberg said in a statement. “The goal of this legislation was to come up with a system that treats all cities that host a portion of our highways the same.”
