SMART Busses Cannot Drive on Private Property: Judge

Sakwa, developer of shopping center and condos, sues to keep busses from his developments.

(Originally posted on Dec. 23, 2016) TROY, MI — A judge has ruled that SMART buses can't drive across private property to reach Troy's multi-modal transportation hub, the Detroit Free Press reported. The ruling in a lawsuit filed by millionaire developer Gary Sakwa, who sold the land to the city of Troy for the transit hub, said the city doesn't have the right to run buses on property he owns that houses a shopping center and condos.The buses had been stopping on his property about 18 times a day to shuttle Amtrak users,

Oakland County Circuit Judge Leo Bowman issued a preliminary injunction stopping the bus traffic until a May trial on Sakwa's lawsuit.
