Troy Athens High School Earns Prestigious St. Vincent de Paul Award for Charity Week

Troy Athens High School was recently awarded The Irvin F. Swider Eternal Flame Award by the Society of St. Vincent de Paul-Detroit for the school's enormous success of Charity Week. The annual week is organized by Athens Student Congress, and the school has donated nearly $450,000 to various charities over the last four years alone.

This year, $148,800 was raised for Detroit Street Care, whose mission is to provide quality medical care to the underserved homeless population of Detroit by bridging the gap between the homeless population and the medical community. “These kids are dedicated, invested and determined in their quest to help the charities they have chosen,” said Athens Stuco co-Adviser Shawn DeFresne. “This is what we do at Athens, it’s part of our culture.”
