Last fall nearly 1000 students competed in the competition on two half days. All students competing and attending WMU received, at minimum, a Bronco Merit Scholarship worth $10,000 ($2,500 per year for four years). The competition consists of an essay portion, group problem solving session, and an evaluation of the student's activity resume and introductory video. Also considered are the student's standardized test scores and weighted high school GPA. Approximately 65 finalists were interviewed by six university officials in January and 22 students were awarded the Medallion Scholar distinction for this year.
