Troy City Council to Discuss Reopening Library on Saturdays

Proposals include closing the library another day of the week or reducing hours.

Troy City Council is to discuss the possibility of reopening the on Saturdays when it meets tonight.

after new Mayor Janice Daniels and council members Doug Tietz, Dave Henderson and Jim Campbell were sworn into office. Council then directed the city administration to return Nov. 28 with a plan to open the library on Saturdays. Currently, the library is open Sunday-Friday, closed Saturday.

Library administrators used an online survey to get input from the public about what day people would like to see the library closed if it were to be open on Saturdays.

Of the 959 people who answered the question "... if the library were to reopeon on Saturday, on which day should it be closed?" the top answers were 342 (35.7 percent) said they would prefer to close the library from 1-5 p.m. Sunday; 242 (25.2 percent) opted for the library to close Mondays; and 180 (18.8 percent) opted for Fridays.

Library administrators have proposed four scenarios for opening the library on Saturdays. The first option would close the library one weekday and cut the hours from 55 per week to 51, which wouldn't cost any additional funds.
