Troy College & Career High School Students Host Coin Wars
The students at Troy College & Career High School challenged each other to collect coins for Variety: The Children's Charity

The students at Troy College & Career High School challenged each other to collect coins for charity this month. “We wanted to find a child-focused charity, where most of the money donated would go directly to the kids,” said Student Government President Grace Freeman. Students spent class time researching organizations, and came up with Variety: The Children’s Charity, of Detroit, who give 90% of the contributions they receive right to the children. Development Director Michelle Murphy graciously accepted the donation and shared the mission of her organization: “We provide assistance to underserved children with cognitive and/or physical challenges or who are victims of disadvantage, poverty, or natural disaster, Variety is changing the lives of children in Southeastern Michigan each day, helping them to lead happier and healthier lives.” “It was a really good cause,” said student and top donor Meghan Weis, “The girls had a friendly competition against the boys to see who could collect the most coins. We raised $650 total, and the girls won, of course, but the real winners were the children at Variety.” To learn more about Variety, please visit www.Variety-Detroit.com.
