Troy Garden Club Presents "Sunny Fields Botanical Park"
Sunny Fields - a private Michigan botanical park which encourages visitors to enjoy the beauty & learn about hortiulture and the environment

A horticultural treasure has its home in Emmett Township, in the lower part of Michigan’s “Thumb.” Sunny Fields is a 40-acre botanical park not far from Yale, MI. It’s a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization, whose mission is to encourage horticultural and environmental education. The venue’s history is heart-warming and its beauty is undeniable.
According to the Sunny Fields web site (www.visitsunnyfields.org), there are more than “1,400 different kinds of plants,” including “both rare exotic and native specimens.” Plant collections include “lilacs, ornamental crabapples, narcissi (including daffodils), evergreens and daylilies. Our crabapple collection ranks as the region’s most diverse assortment, and the lilac collection is the most diverse in Michigan - offering six weeks of blooms annually.”
On Wednesday, November 12, Sunny Fields owner and executive director Bill Horman will visit the Troy Garden Club to give a virtual tour of his private park, that is open by appointment seven months each year - usually on Saturdays, Sundays and Mondays - but also, if arranged in advance, on other days according to visitors’ needs. Tours are free, but donations are welcome. Horman is a former City of Detroit senior horticulturist and a co-founder of the Belle Isle Botanical Society.
