Troy High Gets Ready for “Activist Week”
Troy High is getting ready for one of their most exciting weeks of the year, their annual “Activist Week,” where they raise funds and awareness for a local cause or charity. This year is special, as the money will go to the current students of Oxford, for whatever they may require it for. “With so many events cancelled and their school year put on hold, they haven’t been able to fundraise as would be typical,” said Student Government President Alex Matthews. The funds from Activist Week could be utilized for anything from boosting their prom budget to sending students to state competitions to supporting students that are struggling financially and more.
Various events will take place all week, beginning with the Mr. Troy High men’s beauty pageant on Monday February 7th at 7 pm in the THS auditorium. On Tuesday, students can delay the start time of their classes with charitable donations during “Coin Stall”—where they bring in a bunch of change, and class can’t start until the teacher counts it all. A boys’ volleyball tournament will be held during Powerpuff on Wednesday evening, and on Thursday and Friday we’ll be supporting our boy’s and girl’s basketball teams, respectively.
Events that will go on all week include:
- “Survivor,” where 20 students and staff play in a series of challenges, each followed by subsequent eliminations until one final contestant remains. “Episodes” of THS Survivor will premier each day of Activist Week on Student Government’s YouTube channel (https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCOPZZ7jS4VRLRNylLBSUj6A) and the grand prize is $150!
- “Flock Your Friends” where you can have a gaggle of plastic flamingoes appear on someone’s front lawn…students and any member of the public can participate by signing up at: https://linktr.ee/troyhighschoolstugo
- The public can help by dining at local eateries who will be donating a portion of their profits during “Restaurant Week.” Just mention THS StuGo at the following:
- Monday, 2/7: Mod Pizza, all day, code MOD 1967
- Tuesday, 2/8: Panera, 4 – 8 pm, code PRFUND
- Wednesday, 2/9: Krispy Kreme donut Sale (students only)
- Thursday, 2/10: Quickly’s Boba, all day, mention THS to cashier
- Friday, 2/11: Savvy Sliders, 4 – 9 pm, just show up!
The public is invited to contribute to Activist Week activities via Venmo to @troy-high-school-stugo and the week will wrap up on Friday with a pep assembly and the big reveal as to how much $$ has been raised.
This year, Activist Week is especially personal, as Troy High’s students will directly support Oxford High’s students. “We selected this cause because of how personal and close it is to our student body and community; the Oxford shooting had a massive impact on us all, and we believe this cause will bring the Troy community together,” concluded Matthews. 2022 is shaping up to be the best “Activist Week” yet!
