Troy Homicide Trial Underway in Oakland County Circuit Court

Farmington Hills resident Hayes Bacall is facing first degree murder in the fatal shooting of Saif Jameel at the victim's gas station on Crooks Road.

Prosecutors finished presenting their case Thursday against a Farmington Hills man accused of fatally shooting of his nephew last summer inside a Troy gas station.

Hayes Bacall, 51, is facing one count of premeditated first degree murder and one count of possession of a firearm in commission of a felony in a jury trial that started this week before Oakland County Circuit Court Judge Rae Lee Chabot.

Authorities said the victim, Saif Jameel, 33, of Sylvan Lake and owner of the business, died from multiple gunshot wounds.

said 9-1-1 emergency dispatchers received a call at 7:36 p.m. on July 2, 2010 from a female employee of the BP gas station, 2989 Crooks, who said a person had just been shot inside the business.

Chief Assistant Prosecutor Paul Walton said the shooting stemmed from a dispute over money between Jameel and his uncle. He said Bacall armed himself with a gun and drove to the gas station to shoot the nephew over a debt.

"He demanded payment for a loan and proceeded to shoot the victim 10 times -- a number of times in the back -- and calmly walked out, when he was arrested," Walton said in a phone interview Thursday.

Assistant Oakland  County Prosecutor Ken Frazee rested his case against Bacall in court Thursday before defense attorneys Jerry Sabbota and Mark Kriger called Bacall to the stand in his own defense.

Defense attorneys say Bacall was acting in self defense.

Becall testified Thursday that he shot Jameel in self defense after the two got into a tussle, according to the Detroit Free Press
