Troy Man Hit, Killed By Suspected Drunken Driver In Macomb Co.: Police

Police said the suspected drunken driver of the van, an 84-year-old man, stopped at the scene and cooperated with officials.

HARRISON TOWNSHIP, MI — A Troy man was killed Monday night after he was hit by a suspected drunken driver while trying to cross a street in Macomb County, police said.

Police said the 47-year-old man was trying to cross Jefferson Avenue near Cottrell Street in Harrison Township at 10:50 p.m. when he was hit by a Ford van.

Officers found the man laying in a driveway and rushed him to a nearby hospital where he died, police said.

The driver of the van, an 84-year-old man, stopped at the scene and cooperated with officials, police said.

Investigators believe the driver was drunk and took a blood sample, which was sent to the Michigan State Police Crime Lab for analysis, police said.

The 84-year-old driver was arrested and placed in the Macomb County Jail on suspicion of operating while impaired, causing death, police said.

He was later released pending the results of the investigation, police said.

Officials did not release any names.
