Troy Planning Approves Detached Condo Project

Area residents concerned about safety, narrow road.

TROY, MI — Despite opposition from residents worried about increased pedestrian and vehicular traffic along a narrow road with no sidewalks, the Troy Planning Commission approved site plans at its Nov. 29 meeting for 29 detached condominiums near Lamb Road, The Troy Times reported. The development is planned on a 9.8-ace tract of land located east of Rochester Road, north of Wattles Road and south of Lamb Road.

“Lamb Road is narrow as it is,” said Lawrence Briskey Jr., who lives on the street. “I can’t see the justification for it.”

Lamb Road could have been widened under a proposed special assessment district, which would pass costs on to taxpayers over a period time, usually 10 years. But that was rejected by voters this summer.

City planning consultant Ben Carlisle said a traffic study on the effect of the proposed project didn't reveal any concerns. Developer Gary Abitheira said a road he plans to build off Lamb Road and an extension to Cobblestone Drive that will connect to Keats Drive and Wattles Road should ease the residents' concerns.
