Troy Schools Break Ground on new, state-of-the-art Early Childhood Center

TROY SCHOOL DISTRICT BREAKS GROUND ON STATE-OF-THE-ART EARLY CHILDHOOD CENTER

FACT SHEET about the Troy School District’s Early Childhood Center.

We broke ground today in the rain and mud and under a tent, but nothing could dampen the excitement felt by all who attended: City of Troy dignitaries and VIPs, Troy School District School Board and Central Office Staff, and the best visitors, 20 current preschoolers with hardhats and shovels.

Fast Facts:

  • Discussions of an Early Childhood Center began in August of 2016
  • Design began in March 2017
  • 72,276 square foot building
  • Approximately $23 million budget
  • 26 classrooms for 3 to 5 year old preschool students
  • Central Enrollment Office will be housed in the building

  • Provide spaces that encourage collaboration, movement, and exploration
  • Consider the scale of the new center that is not over-whelming for the young learner
  • Convenient access for students and parents that is direct and safe
  • Include interior and exterior spaces for gross motor development
  • Organize the new center into smaller learning communities to encourage “family groupings”
  • Provide learning spaces that are flexible, adaptable and stimulating
  • For ease of access, locate the new ECC as close the geographic center of the district
  • The new center should include abundant natural light in all instructional spaces
  • The new center should be “Eco-Friendly” that allows interaction with the natural environment
  • Provide professional space for teachers and staff to encourage teaming, collaboration, interaction and observation

  • Board of Education – for their leadership, support and approval to move forward
  • Dignitaries present included Troy Mayor Dane Slater, several members of City Council, County Commissioner Wade Fleming
  • Early Childhood Team led by Assistant Superintendent, Kris Griffor – several site visits, development of the guiding principles, curriculum development
  • Rob Carson and his team – Countless design and planning meetings to get us to today.
  • TMP Architecture – John Castellano and John Waldrop for the design of the building
  • Barton Malow – Christa Amalio – Project Manager and Darin Madden – Site Superintendent are responsible for making sure the building is built to design on time and within budget
  • Owners Representatives for Construction - Michelle Kerns and Mark Paulus from Lecole Planners who have been and will be working closely with TMP and Barton Malow on the design and construction of the Early Childhood Center
