Troy Uber Driver Carjacked In Birmingham, Officers Tracked Thief With App: Cops
Police said officers used the "Find My Phone" app to track the car after learning the Uber driver had a second cellphone in the car.
BIRMINGHAM, MI — A thief was arrested Thursday night after police said he carjacked an Uber driver in Birmingham.
Police said the thief threw an Uber driver to the ground in a parking lot in the area of North Old Woodward Avenue and Hamilton Road at 11:35 p.m.
The 74-year-old Uber driver, from Troy, told officers that he was parked on Old Woodward Avenue, north of Hamilton Road, when someone opened his driver’s door and attacked him, police said.

The thief then sped away north on Old Woodward Avenue, police said. The Uber driver was not injured in the carjacking.
The Uber driver then told police that his second cell phone was still in the car, so officers used the "Find My Phone" app to track the car, which they found on northbound Lahser and Square Lake roads in Bloomfield Township, police said.

When Bloomfield Township officers tried stopping the car, the thief tried speeding away, but lost control of the car and smashed into a guardrail, police said.
The thief was then arrested in connection to the carjacking without further incident.
Police did not identify the suspected thief.
