TROY, MI — A Troy woman was scammed out of $100,000 on social media, according to police.

The woman told police that she was contacted on Instagram by a man who claimed he could help consolidate her debt and get a new mortgage, according to police.

The woman then gave the person her bank account information and social security number, according to police.

The woman thought the man was withdrawing money for his financial services but none of the money went toward the new mortgage or consolidation, according to police.
