USS DETROIT CAPTAIN AND CREW TO VISIT

The future commanding officer of USS DETROIT (LCS 7) and members of his crew will visit the Detroit area April 16 - 19.

The future USS DETROIT, the Navy's newest Littoral Combat Ship, will be commissioned in front of the Ren Cen later this year. She is in the final stages of construction at the Marinette Marine shipyard in Marinette, Wisconsin.

Commander Michael Desmond, who will be the ship's first commanding officer, and five of his crew members, will visit Detroit from April 16 to 19. In addition to planning sessions for the ship's commissioning, he and his crew will meet with City of Detroit and area officials and visit with a host of community organizations.

While the date of the actual commissioning ceremony has not yet been finalized, it is likely to be held in September. To obtain tickets for the ceremony, visit ussdetroitlcs7.com.
