Voters in Oakland County to Decide Several Primary Races Tuesday, Aug. 2

Democrats will chose candidates to oppose Republican County Executive L. Brooks Patterson. Incumbent Clerk Lisa Brown has primary opponent.

OAKLAND COUNTY, MI — Voters in Oakland County have a say in several county races in the Tuesday, Aug. 2, primary election. Polls are open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.

In countywide races, Democrats Vicki Barnett, of Farmington Hills, and Mark Danowski, of Davisburg, are vying for the right to challenge incumbent County Executive L. Brooks Patterson in November.

Both Republicans and Democrats have races in the primary for county clerk/registrar of deeds. Republicans are Tina Barton, of Royal Oak, and Bill Bullard Jr., of Highland Township. On the Democratic side, candidates are incumbent Lisa Brown, of West Bloomfield, and Michael D. Smith, of Union Lake.

Commissioner Primaries

A three-way primary is shaping up on the Republican ballot for District 2 county commissioner. Incumbent Bob Hoffman, of Highland, is challenged by Salvatore Delia and Robert Klevan, both of Holly. The winner will face Democrat Rhonda Carr, of Holly, in November. Voters in the Village of Holly and the townships of Groveland, Highland, Holly, Springfield and Rose will vote in this race.

In District 5, five newcomers — Tom J. Berman and Phillip A. Trzos, both of Keego Harbor; Tom Isaacs and S. Bobby Jasti, both of West Bloomfield; and Pat Ogg, of Union Lake — are seeking the Republican nomination. The winner will face the winner of the Democratic primary between Jane Felice-Boudreau and Julia A. Pulver, both of West Bloomfield. Voters in the city of Keego Harbor, Orchard Lake Village, Sylvan Lake and parts of Waterford and West Bloomfield townships will vote in this race.

In District 7, Republican incumbent Christine A. Long, of Commerce, is challenged by Ekbal Bahoda, of West Bloomfield Township. The winner will face Democrat Frederick Golding, of Commerce, in November.

Voters in Commerce Township, West Bloomfield Township, the City of Walled Lake, and the Village of Wolverine Lake will decide this race.

In District 10, two Republicans — David B. Foster and Terry Haines, both of Pontiac — are vying for the right to challenge Democratic incumbent David Bowman, of Pontiac, in November. Only voters in Pontiac vote in this contest.

In District 12, Chuck Moss, of Birmingham, is challenging Shelley Goodman Taub, of Bloomfield Hills, in the Republican primary. The winner will face Democrat Charles Gaba, of Bloomfield Hills, in November. Voters in Bloomfield Township, Bloomfield Hills and Birmingham vote in this contest.

In District 13, two Republicans — Michelle Dinardo, of Farmington Hills, and Max Rohtbart, of West Bloomfield — are vying for the right to challenge incumbent Democrat Marcia Gershenson, of Bloomfield Hills, in November. Voters in West Bloomfield Township, Bloomfield Township and the City of Farmington Hills decide this race.

In District 17, Republicans Regina Brim, of Lathrup Village, and David A. Cuttner, of Southfield, are vying for the right to challenge incumbent Democrat Nancy Quarles, of Southfield, in November. Voters in the cities of Southfield, Lathrup Village and Oak Park decide this race.

In District 20, Republicans David J Harrell, of Troy, and J. Karl Jackson, of Madison Heights, are vying for the right to challenge Democratic incumbent, Gary R. McGillivray, of Madison Heights, in November. Voters in Madison Heights, Pleasant Ridge, Troy and Royal Oak decide this contest.
