Wass 1st graders make goodie bags for Troy Beaumont pediatric nurses

The first graders at Wass used their Valentine's Day party time to do a service project for the Pediatric Nurses at Troy Beaumont. They talked about how they could fill the buckets of these nurses to make sure they can then turn around and fill the buckets of the kiddos that come to them as patients. Students talked about empathy and kindness and putting ourselves in their shoes. Then the kiddos picked all the items to go in the goody bags from candy, snacks, gum, lotion, Chapstick, to making them cards and friendship bracelets. Parents donated all the goodies, some first graders worked to do chores at home to earn the money! Some first graders were responsible for counting and sorting all the goodies to make sure each class had enough for their bags!

Thinking about how much nurses care for others was what motivated these students.

“I feel helpful because they help kids, so I feel helpful to make them feel happy because they help kids who feel sad”- Harper Carr
