Would You Like Pepper Spray on that Pizza?

The call that went came into the Troy Police Department about 10:30 p.m. Saturday advised “trouble with a customer” at a Chuck-E-Cheese restaurant at 740 John R Road.

It was the coughing and vomiting kind of trouble, police learned when they arrived at the restaurant, a popular pizza place for children’s birthday parties and family fun – not normally the kind of place where pepper spray is needed.

But customer Robin Danae Charleston, 19, of Hamtramck allegedly discharged the inflammatory agent because she believe “someone near here was messing with her stuff,” Troy police said in a news release.

Charleston initially told police that the pepper spray accidentally discharged, but the video showed otherwise. She didn’t spray it directly at an individual, but into the air,  which was also in close proximity to her 2-year-old daughter, police said.

Alliance Ambulance treated those exposed to the pepper spray at the scene. They all refused transport to the hospital.

Charleston was arraigned before Magistrate Donald R. Chisholm in 52-4 District Court in Troy on Monday, when she was formally charged with disorderly conduct-disturbing the peace, a 93-day misdemeanor.
