Homeowner Escapes House Fire in Keego Harbor

Fire crews from six stations reported to a house fire Sunday afternoon, the cause of which remaining under investigation.

A Keego Harbor homeowner escaped a house fire Sunday, as West Bloomfield firefighters were able to extinguish the blaze and prevented it from spreading to nearby homes.

Six fire crews responded to the fire at a home on the 3000 block of Grove St. in Keego Harbor at around 3:44 p.m., according to a press release issued Monday by WBFD. A homeowner had discovered the fire after hearing a loud bang and tried to extinguish it before escaping with a family pet and calling 911. Several other family pets passed away in the fire, according to the release.

WBFD offered in its release that all residents exit their homes immediately and call 911 in case of fire. The release also suggested to keep storage at least three feet away from gas fired appliances.

While the cause of the fire remains investigation, WBFD said that the home suffered approximately $85,000 worth of damage. The family living there was asked to evacuate and one firefighters sustained minor injuries.
