Wright & Company Shines as Detroit's New Contemporary Eatery

Wright & Company

It’s not blatantly obvious – but soon after I entered Detroit’s new Wright & Company restaurant, I noticed there was a subtle diamond theme throughout the place. After quickly checking Google, I learned that this space was occupied by the Wright-Kay jewelry firm from 1920-1978, hence the name and the decor. I’m a sucker for historic meaning, so my interest in this restaurant was peaked from the beginning and continued to peak all the way through two “snacks” four “plates” one “dessert” and the array of craft cocktails served throughout the meal. I had a feeling that the food and drinks would be stellar considering Wright & Company is a joint venture between Sugar House owner Dave Kwiatkowski and Marc Djozlija, former head chef at MGM Grand Detroit’s Wolfgang Puck Steak.

There is lots of metered parking available along Woodward and John R, which run on either side of the building. Also, the People Mover stops at Broadway St. which is just a 2 minute walk to the restaurant. Once you park, head towards the entrance on John R (it’s towards the back of the building) and then take the elevator to the second floor. I know it might sound a bit confusing but there are Wright & Company signs that direct you. Believe me, it’s worth the hunt.

Wright & Company’s menu offers nine “snacks” ranging from $6-$10, nine “plates” ranging from $10-$18 and three “desserts” which are $7. That may seem like a limited menu, but each dish offers a HUGE variety in taste and cuisine. The portions are a shareable size and between three of us we tried the warm dates, fresh potato chips, brussels sprout salad, tuna tartare (my personal fav), pork tenderloin and the seared teres major. Every dish was beautifully plated, flavorful and unique.

Though the decor is a stunning mix of classic/modern – complete with a marble bar top and a murono glass chandelier – the vibe is surprisingly chill. The servers are relaxed but know everything about the menu and drink options. We highly recommend sitting in Lauren Deming’s section, she’s fabulous. The crowd that fills the half-circle leather booths and quaint tables are diverse and clad in everything from jeans to a suite and tie; making it the perfect place to stop after work or visit on a weekend night out.
