5 Tech Fails on Your Holiday Shopping List

You’ve seen the ubiquitous lists of the hottest toys, electronics and other items that should be on your holiday shopping lists. Kim Komando, the weekend radio host who offers advice on today’s digital lifestyle, advice on things that shouldn’t.

Here’s the list, as reported by USA Today:

  1. Cutting-edge technology that hasn’t been fully tested.
  2. Television sets. Yes, there are deep discounts, but they’re on off-brands with smaller screens. The ones you really want are just as expensive as they’ve ever been.
  3. Streaming media gadgets. Unless someone has given you exact specifications, you could end up giving a gift the recipient’s computer system doesn’t support.
  4. Standalone gadgets like smartphones, point-and-shoot cameras and media players. They’ve probably been there or bought that.
  5. Laptop computers. The best deals are available after the Consumer Electronics Show in January or during back-to-school sales in July or August.
