LYON TOWNSHIP, MI — A man was arrested overnight after leading police on a wild chase through several Oakland County communities, according to sheriff's officials.
The chase started at roughly 6:55 p.m. Thursday when officers tried stopping a car near South Hill and Eleven Mile roads in Lyon Township, officials said.
The driver had earlier fled Livingston County police, who tried stopping him on suspicion of operating a vehicle while under the influence of crack cocaine and alcohol, officials said.
The man led police into Milford Township, where he rammed two Wixom police cars before continuing into Highland Township, officials said.
The man again intentionally struck another police car before officers finally cornered the car near Hickory Ridge and Rose Center roads in Rose Township, officials said.
The man then ran away from the car into a wooded area where officers saw him jump into a nearby pond, officials said.
Officials searched the area with rescue teams, K-9 units and drones, but could not find him.
Police warned residents in the area to lock their cars and doors while they searched for the suspect.
Officers finally found the man at roughly 3 a.m. Friday near the 1800 block of North Milford Road in Milford, officials said.
Officers identified him as the man who led them on a chase. He was arrested without further incident and taken to McLaren Oakland for medical clearance before being placed in the Oakland County Jail.
Investigators are seeking multiple charges, including fleeing and eluding police, resisting and obstructing a police officer, felonious assault of a police officer, operating while license revoked, and other traffic-related offenses.
Additional charges are possible as the investigation continues.
