HIGHLAND TOWNSHIP, MI — A 70-year-old man drowned in an Oakland County lake Tuesday, according to sheriff's officials.
The incident happened at 8:47 p.m. Tuesday on Duck Lake along the 3000 block of Ramada Drive in Highland Township, according to officials.
Officials said Byron Felix Carter, of Highland Township, was on his dock and cleaning a boat when he fell into the water.
Carter's wife witnessed him fall and called for help after she did not see him resurface, officials said.
Officials said rescue crews found Carter submerged in the water between the dock and his boat.
The rescue crews pulled him from the water and immediately began CPR and other lifesaving measures, officials said.
Carter was taken to Huron Valley Hospital, where he died, officials said.
An autopsy determined the cause of death to be accidental drowning, officials said.
No other details were released.
