HOLY, MI — An Oakland County man is facing charges after threatening to shoot up a party outside a restaurant last weekend, according to prosecutors.
Daniel James Gibson, 26, with one count of false report or threat of terrorism. He was placed in jail with a $50,000 bond.
If convicted, he faces a maximum of 20 years in prison and/or a $20,000 fine.
The incident happened last Saturday afternoon at Andy's Place Restaurant on Broad Street in Holly, according to prosecutors.
Prosecutors said the restaurant was hosting an outdoor celebration with live music.
Event organizers removed Gibson from the party after he tried bringing his own alcohol to the event, according to prosecutors. They said he repeatedly climbed over a fence surrounding the event's location.
He then threatened to "shoot every person in there" or "shoot the place up" while reaching into his backpack, according to prosecutors.
Officers arrived and arrested Gibson, prosecutors said. Investigators searched the backpack and found a knife and several containers of alcohol.
"There is no such thing as an 'idle threat' of mass violence," Oakland County Prosecutor Karen McDonald said. "A community gathered to enjoy music and celebrate the reopening of a local business has a right to safety. The defendant's alleged actions, while intoxicated and carrying a weapon, could have caused a panic and endangered everyone at this event."
