Grandparents, parents, children, Miss Farmington and au pairs alike all had a terrific time at the 2nd annual Pizza Palooza event held at the Costick Center in Farmington Hills on Sunday evening, Oct. 7.
Due to its popularity in 2011, this unique event drew a large crowd this year. Many families pre-registered and others showed up at the door with numbers nearing close to 200. There were children of varying ages enjoying the festivities - first eating the yummy pizza followed by various activities organized for them in the attached gymnasium.
This event was perfect for the au pair volunteers who love to be with children since providing child care is a big part of their au pair job. Au pairs from Germany, Brazil, Austria and South Africa were kept busy face painting, helping at the arts and crafts table and spreading the word about au pairs and their own country.

Au Pair in America local coordinator, Carol Benton, was also there to answer questions a family might have about the program. Au pairs are young ladies who come here on a J-1 visa through a government approved program. They spend one (or two) years living with their host family, providing up to 45 hours of child care each week while attending college and experiencing the cultural exchange of their lifetime.
Pizza is a favorite food for everyone around the world but to be able to taste so many different kinds of pizza at one place was really a special treat. The au pairs were amazed at how many varieties of pizzas there were to sample. They each had a few favorites and plan to tell their host families which ones they liked the best, hoping they will try it next time when they order pizza for the family.

The au pairs loved Pizza Palooza and the City of Farmington Hills Recreation Superintendent, Bryan Farmer, loved having them as volunteers once again!
