The City of White Lake Township is ringing in holiday cheer this year with a multi-city tradition that offers fun for the whole family. Holiday festivities kick off on Saturday, December 1, in the heart of Oakland County at the annual Holiday Extravaganza Parade & Children’s WinterART Festival. Celebrating more than 30 years of cheer, this seasonal celebration is presented through the community efforts of Auburn Hills, Pontiac, Waterford Township and White Lake Township. The event officially opens at 8:30 am at the Children’s WinterART, 30 N. Saginaw in Pontiac, where kids can make holiday crafts alongside the Palace Patrol from the Palace of Auburn Hills before the parade. Also from 8:30 – 10:30 am is the Petting Farm on Saginaw, starring Santa’s reindeer (sponsored by the City of Auburn Hills), as well as horse-drawn wagon rides, face painting, the art action experience, hot cocoa and more.
The Parade begins at 11:00 am at the corner of Baldwin Avenue and Caesar Chavez in Pontiac and features all the pageantry a holiday parade can offer. Community floats, professional floats and balloons from the Parade Company, hundreds of favorite characters, the Palace Patrol, horses, choreographed dancers, area high school marching bands, and of course, Santa and Mrs. Claus will proceed in a memorable spectacle for all ages. There will also be a “Gallery of Ice” starting at 8:30 am on the corner of Saginaw and Huron featuring a display of original ice carvings and a live demonstration. All activities at the Holiday Extravaganza are free.
Genisys Credit Union and Oakland County Michigan Works! are presenting sponsors of the event. More information about the parade route and a full schedule of events are available at www.holidayextravaganza.org.
