The Best Time to Find Summer Job is Early Spring: Jobs in White Lake-Highland Area
Don't wait until summer to start looking for a job. Here are some other tips from the experts, plus listings on Patch Jobs Board.

WHITE LAKE-HIGHLAND, MI – Before you know it, schools will be dismissed for the summer. But that’s too late in many instances to start looking for summer jobs, especially in fields that are competitive for summer internships.
Teens often fall into some familiar traps when looking for a summer job, according to livecareer.com, which offers these tips:
- Don’t automatically discount jobs in fast food or at a big-box retailer because you don’t want to spend your summer flipping burgers and stocking shelves. Instead, consider that any work experience is valuable and offers learning experiences.
- Don’t give up if you submitted an application and have heard nothing. Persistent follow-up is important — not just for teens, but for any job seeker. Try following up in person and asking for an interview.
- Don’t wait until summer to start looking. It’s especially important for teens to start looking before college kids come home for the summer.
- This isn’t a friends’ outing. Although some employers, like resorts and groups that operate summer camps, often hire many teens, working together isn’t all you dreamed it to be — especially if you’re a hard worker and your best friend is a slacker.
- Ask for help. Talk to people who have been through it — parents and siblings, teachers, neighbors — and get some advice on job hunting. They may even know someone in their professional networks who is looking for seasonal help and can give you an inside track.
