Knitting and Me and a King Pig

Introductory knitting thoughts, and future crafty blogging goals.

Sometimes I wonder how I would have spent hundreds of thousands of hours of my life if I hadn’t learned how to knit. Maybe I would have become a runner. Although I do often walk and knit, I don’t think I could mix knitting with running; that could be dangerous. Maybe I would have read classic Russian literature. I often read and knit, too, but I think the combination of War and Peace and knitting would put me to sleep very quickly. Maybe I would have fallen in love with another craft or hobby like stamp collecting, but somehow I just don’t think it would be the same. I know I would have been perplexed many times over what to give friends and relatives for Christmas. I know I would be several thousand dollars poorer (we won’t take into consideration the cost of the substantial stash of yarn I own; I’m sure my yarn/knitting earnings balance sheet is still in the green... maybe). And I would have never marathon watched nine seasons of X-files on DVD, followed by seven seasons of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and many more. Currently my knitting TV-viewing of choice is documentaries – thank you Netflix and HBO-GO.

Maybe I would have become a famous blogger – The Paules Post. According to the invitation to blog made by the Patch, one should blog about one’s passion. It’s hard for me to imagine that running or Russian literature would have inspired me to blog – no offense to anyone who might find those topics exciting and blog-worthy.  But knitting, ah yes, this is a topic I can blab, I mean blog, about.

I am hoping to not only share my own projects (sometimes I go out on a limb and do something crafty that’s not knitting), but also to discover and write about what other crafting is going on around our community (is JoAnn’s really moving into the old Farmer Jacks?!?).

Now for the proof in the pudding: knitting talk! While shopping at Great Lakes with my daughter and my step-son’s girlfriend, we came across an XXL Angry Bird moustache pig face t-shirt. Jodi (stepson's girlfriend) suggested this would be a good costume for my 9 year old, Corbin. I’ve gathered the t-shirt with elastic at the bottom, stuffed it with pillows and it’s great. But the finishing touch is the king pig hat that I sorta made up. The yarn is PJs from Knit One, Crochet Too, very soft, that I picked up at Knitting on the Fringe in Commerce. I knit it with size 10 circulars, started it on the Oct. 29 and finished all the details (made with odds and ends of yarn) on the 30th. Corbin's real pleased! I'll try to share the full costume next time.
