Michigan, Michigan State Talk Big Ten Title Hopes; EMU Surprises Many

Michigan and Michigan State both battle for the Big Ten while Eastern Michigan surprises us all and goes for the MAC! College football surely is exciting here in the great state of Michigan!

It's been a long time since we've been able to say “Michigan” and “First Place” together in the same sentence. I, being a Michigan fan, support both Michigan and Michigan State.

This is the year where both Michigan and Michigan State are almost at the top of the Big Ten standings.

Michigan, Nebraska, and Michigan State all have the same conference record in the Big Ten Legends Division. As of today, the winner of the game between Michigan and Nebraska, which happens in two weeks, would decide the final champion of the Big Ten Legends Division.

However, Michigan State needs to go undefeated for the rest of the year; hope Michigan loses a conference game; and hope for the impossible, Nebraska needs to lose two more games (the tie-breaker is the head-to-head conference games and the Spartans lost to Nebraska therefore MSU has a disadvantage.)

As many college football fans know, last year we had the infamous “three-way tie” for the Big Ten Championship. For Michigan State, they would have won in any other conference besides the Big Ten.

Fortunately, this year, it will not happen.

It's amazing how we are talking about Michigan and Michigan State battling for the Big Ten championship.

The last time Michigan won the Big Ten was back in 2004; Michigan State won the Big Ten in 1990. The last time Michigan won the National Championship was in 1997; Michigan State won the National Championship in 1956.

Both teams have been waiting quite a long time.

The winner of the Big Ten Legends will go on to face the, likely favored, Penn State Nittany Lions in the Big Ten Championship Game.

If Michigan can beat Nebraska, that will be a huge milestone for the program because they have a first-year head coach. If Michigan can beat the Big Ten Leaders Champion, they will go down as one of the best teams the Big Ten has ever had.

For Michigan State, they were expected to lose to Nebraska. Plus, they played on the road which made it even more difficult.

The MAC

In other news, the Eastern Michigan Eagles have made a huge gain as they are 5-3 and looking forward to a bowl berth with one more win. Central Michigan needs a new quarterback because they haven't been themselves since Dan LeFevour left for the pros.

This college football season will have fans in Michigan talking because both Michigan and Michigan State are competing with some of the best programs in the nation. I look forward to this year's bowl season!
