Cops: Oakland County Man Had 8,000 Child Porn Images

Investigation of Springfield Township man stems from 2014 tip from citizen who saw defendant allegedly viewing porn.

An Oakland County arrested on a federal warrant Tuesday had more than 8,000 images of child pornography on his home computer, police said.

Timothy James Hobert, 31, of Springfield Township, was arraigned in U.S. District Court Tuesday on one count of receipt of child pornography and one count of possession of child pornography. The charges carry a minimum of five years in federal prison.

He was arrested by Oakland County sheriff’s deputies and agents from the FBI at his home Tuesday, and is being held without bond in the Wayne County Jail, pending a bond hearing at 1 p.m. Friday.

The charges stem from a yearlong investigation that began last August when a witness told authorities he saw the victim viewing child pornography on a computer. A search was executed and a forensic examination was ordered of the more than 8,000 pornographic images by the Oakland County Sheriff’s Department’s Computer Crimes Unit.

“Individuals that prey on children and participate in supporting the sexual abuse of minors will not be tolerated,” Sheriff Michael J. Bouchard said in a statement. “I applaud my investigators and the FBI agents who conducted diligent work to bring this child predator to justice.”
