Community Update

We came to know Building Blocks and their wonderful environment over 5 years ago when my children were little (2.5 and 5.5 at the time). My job had moved and I then needed my kids to be closer to home (we live in Highland). I was fearful of any change for my kiddies, especially my son, who loves consistency. The minute I walked into the school, I felt my heart soften and my fears subside. It felt like home. Miss Emily gave my kids something to color with, while she talked with me at a children’s small table and chairs, about the school and what they had to offer.

Needless to say, I was very happy to join - my son in preschool and my daughter in after school care (she was starting kindergarten that year). I was instantly in love with their approach, and as each day passed my kids loved it there and thrived. They cried when I came to pick them up, which oddly, made me feel serenely comfortable. If I couldn't be with them during the day, I was happy that the Building Blocks family was.

I LOVED the daily Learning Stories they sent home, so I could read about what my children were learning, see the pictures of them doing it, and talk with them about it at night. I realized I wasn't missing their childhood after all; I felt actively engaged.

Incorporating nature into the learning was a huge bonus for the kids. The school is beautifully nestled on the edge of a state park area, and over time this provided hours of learning, playing, and enjoyment for all the kids. Through EVERY season, there is something to learn from the outdoors and they all do!

And if you are lucky enough to still be there for Preschool graduation, they do an AMAZING job on your child's portfolio of their full time there at Building Blocks (we got a binder and CD packed FULL of pictures, notes, and samples of their work). Along with being able to see all the progress made, it was such a beautiful and lasting memory to have!

My son benefited immensely from their emergent curriculum. He was given space to follow the things that interested him, which peaked his curiosity on many levels without adding "stopping points" to what he should be learning that year. I believe this helped him advance quickly and understand things on his own level, which contributes to his success and achievements today.

My daughter was encouraged to follow her interests in her creative side – with crafts and pictures, paintings and stories; she picked up new techniques from her friends and teachers. She is still wonderfully creative and applies these methods today.

And the rest is history. We still attend on snow days and during the summer.

Even today, my kids don't like to be picked up too early. :)

Hurray to the wonderful staff, teachers and owners who make it happen every day and tirelessly continue to encourage, develop, adapt, learn, smile, love, and treat our kids like their own.

We Love You Building Blocks - Thank You!
