Lady Eagles Rally for 44-34 Win over Wayne Memorial

Lakeland opens home season with come from behind win.

In an exciting, come from behind win, the lady Eagles came away triumphant in their home opener game on Friday night against Wayne Memorial High School

After a low scoring first quarter where both teams struggled on offense, Wayne Memorial came out with a second quarter surge putting up 22 points to Lakeland’s eleven by the half.

The Eagles came back at the beginning of the second half ready to play, however, and with Lakeland senior forward Marlayna Malvich, leading the charge, a strong defensive game resulted in a 31-27 score going into the fourth quarter.

With their momentum in place, the lady Eagles never looked back continuing to put points on the board during the final eight minutes of play. A solid defensive combination including Malvich and teammate Dominique Zigo kept the Zebras from getting within ten points of the Eagles the rest of the game.

The final buzzer signaled a 44-34 win for Lakeland with Malvich as leading scorer with 17 points followed closely by Zino with eleven.

The lady Eagles are back in action, at home on Tuesday night, against in a KLAA crossover game. Tip off is at 7 pm.
