The Lakeland hockey team shut out Walled Lake Central Saturday night 3-0.
The Eagle defense was stingy all night long. Mitch Leist was outstanding in goal getting his first shut out of the season.
Joey Lepkowski opened the scoring for the Eagles in the first period. Senior forward Nick Kobak scored at the 5:05 mark of the second period to give the Eagles a 2-0 lead. Captain Anthony Kobak finished the scoring less than a minute later on a 5 on 3. His goal came after Central’s Drew Kocoves drew a game misconduct after a boarding penalty.

Leist and the Eagle defense took care of the rest by shutting down Central in the third period for the 3-0 win.
Coach Ronayne was extremely pleased with the performance, “This was probably our best game of the year. It was a complete team effort. We worked hard and displayed a lot of mental toughness and showed some character.”

Eagle goalie and Captain Mitch Leist was all smiles after the game.
Leist said, “I felt good tonight and the team was playing good in front of me. The boys were hungry tonight. We have to have a good week of practice and come out hard in our next game and keep it going.”
Lakeland ups its record to 2-6 with the KLAA conference win. The Eagles are back on the ice at St. Clair Shores on Wednesday evening.
