Lakeland Shuts Out Waterford Mott 2-0
Junior goalie Trevor Kalinowski leads the Eagles to victory.
The Eagles shut out Waterford Mott 2-0 Wednesday night. Junior goalie Trevor Kalinowski was outstanding in goal leading the Eagles to the win.
The first period was a close checking game with both goalies standing strong as the period ended with a 0-0 tie. The second period saw a series of penalties.
Mott was whistled for a tripping penalty with 4 minutes left to put the Eagles on the power play. Just 12 seconds later, Joey Lepowski scored the first goal from just outside the circle at the 3:48 mark. With a 1-0 lead after two, this was all Kalinowski needed for Lakeland’s third win.

Trevor said the key to the win was “to keep my head in the game, work hard and honestly play out of my head. The defense moved guys out and sacrificed their bodies which made my job a lot easier,” he said.
Senior forward Kevin Lechner got the Eagles second goal with 5:12 left in the game for the 2-0 victory. Lakeland’s defense stepped up in front of Kalinowski as they killed a penalty with just over 4 minutes left as well stopping the Corsairs who pulled their goalie for the last 1:30.

Lakeland was whistled for 4 penalties while Mott had two penalties.
When Coach Ronayne was asked what the key to win was, he said, “Total team hard work. We have a system in place, the boys believe it and they figured it out when we played Howell, and today they worked it hard."
With the win, the Eagles up their record to 2-4 in the tough KLAA north division. Lakeland takes on Davison High School at home at 3:20 p.m. Saturday.
