Downtown Milford will be lined with banners, flags and cheering fans ringing race bells as cyclists take to the streets for the 2013 Milford Criterium. The family-friendly, highly-anticipated race begins at 8 a.m. Sunday, July 28.
Commonly called the “Milford Crit,” the criterium is a short, multi-lap, closed circuit road cycling race held in urban settings. The course starts and finishes on Main Street, weaves through Central Park and snakes along the streets of the Village of Milford.
Races begin at 8 a.m. and continue through the day until 4 p.m. There are 11 total fleets, each one for a different skill level, including: junior boys and girls, ages 14 to 18; and men and women, category one through five. A full schedule of the races as well as rules and regulations can be found on the Milford Crit website.
Pre-registration for the Milford Crit is open through July 25 online at www.usacycling.org. Day-of registration will also be available starting at 7 a.m. on the day of the race at 344 North Main Street in Milford and will close 30 minutes prior to the scheduled start time for each race.
New this year, Trail's Edge Cyclery will host the Kid's Adventure Zone where children can try out Strider bikes, ride an obstacle course and enjoy other family fun activities. The Kid’s Adventure Zone will be open the entire race day and will be located on Main Street outside downtown Milford’s Mill Valley Shopping Center where Trail’s Edge Cyclery is located.
There will also be a Kid’s Fun Race at 1:15 p.m. for children, ages 14 and under, to ride the track that the pros use. There is no fee to enter, however, registration is required. Registration will be open from 11 a.m. to noon and will be located on Main Street behind the announcer's stage.
