Oakland Co. Man Accused Of Killing Girlfriend's 1-Year-Old Child: Cops

A Wixom man is facing murder charges in connection with the death of a 1-year-old infant, according to police.

WIXOM, MI — A Wixom man is facing murder charges in connection with the death of a 1-year-old girl, according to police.

Officers responded to a Wixom home on the 30000 block of Tamarack Drive at 12:26 a.m. last Saturday and found 1-year-old McKinley Hardy unresponsive, according to police.

Police said the infant's mother and her boyfriend were performing CPR on the 1-year-old before officers took her to Ascension Providence Hospital in Novi and then to Children's Hospital in Detroit where she died.

Investigators determined the infant died from multiple injuries sustained throughout her body, according to police.

Police said 24-year-old Christopher Charles Savage was the only adult at the home with the baby girl at the time she suffered the injuries that caused her death.

Savage was charged with felony murder and first-degree child abuse. He was placed in the Oakland County Jail and denied bond. His next court date is scheduled for June 10.

If convicted on either charge, he faces up to life in prison.

"Words cannot begin to describe how deeply disturbing and upsetting this incident is," Oakland County Prosecutor Karen McDonald said in a news release. "Children deserve safe environments to grow and thrive and this child clearly did not have that opportunity. My office will fight for justice for the victim and their loved ones."
