The Phantom of the Opera, Broadwayβs longest running hit, is based on the classic novel βLe FantΓ΄me de lβOpΓ©raβ by Gaston Leroux, and tells the story of a masked figure who lurks beneath the catacombs of the Paris Opera House, exercising a reign of terror over all who inhabit it. The Phantom is played by Waterford Kettering Senior, Brendan Martin. He falls madly in love with an innocent young soprano, Christine, played by Junior Madison Krumins, and devotes himself to creating a new star by nurturing her extraordinary talents and by employing all of the devious methods at his command. Its sensational score includes 'Think of Me,' 'Angel of Music,' 'Music of the Night,' 'All I Ask of You,' 'Masquerade' and the title song. Additional feature roles include Raoul, played by Junior Ian Lukas, Carlotta played by Senior Anna Yoder and Ubaldo played by Junior Sean Stanisz.
The production is a combined effort of the Waterford Kettering community. Not only does The Phantom of the Opera feature a cast of over 40 Waterford Kettering High School students and over 20 crew, but the production is directed by Kettering teachers. The Phantom of the Opera is directed by Jason Pratt. Vocal direction is by Michelle Harness and music direction is by Scott Adkins. The Waterford Kettering Robotics Team also pitched in, designing a remote-controlled boat for the catacomb scene.
