Police called off a chase after speeds reached 90 mph.. Anyone with information is asked to call the Oakland County Sheriff's Office.

The Oakland County Sheriff’s Office is asking for the public’s help in identifying a possible police impersonator who appeared to be conducting a traffic stop on I-96 at Milford Road about 6 a.m. Thursday.
Two off-duty officers observed the suspicious circumstances, police said in a statement.
One of the officers attempted to follow the vehicle but the suspect fled at speeds reaching more than 90 mph, so the officers stopped the chase for safety reasons.

The suspect is described as a white male with light brown hair in a crew-cut style. He was last seen wearing bright blue pants and a black tactical vest with the word “Sheriff” in silver letters on the back.
The suspect was driving a early 2000 model silver or champagne Pontiac Bonneville with red and blue LED lights in the rear window. The windows on vehicle are mirror tinted. The Michigan license plate number is 0KLR02, but that plate came back with no record, police said.

When the officers observed the suspect, he appeared to have a black GMC Yukon or Chevrolet Tahoe with Ohio license plates stopped on the side of the road.
“All investigations have shown that this was a police impersonator incident,” police said.
