The beginning of Daylight Saving Time is also a good time to change smoke alarm batteries, said the American Red Cross of Southeast Michigan, which is participating in the national Home Fire Preparedness Campaign intended to reduce house fires, which make up the bulk of the 70,000 emergencies the agency responds to each year.
