Gamrat also said she would not resign her seat (although she admitted to giving that option some consideration and wouldn’t rule out stepping down at a future date), the report stated. In fact, the lawmaker told reporters that an investigation into her relationship with Courser would clear her of any misconduct and legal wrongdoing.

Friday afternoon’s 10-minute press conference was the first time Gamrat has spoken about the controversy that has dogged Courser and herself recently. In what has already become a national punchline, Courser was caught on an audio recording devising a scheme to send a fake email to state GOP allies in order to draw attention to the relationship he was having with Gamrat. Courser also claims that his admittedly ill-conceived plan was an effort to root out a group that was trying to blackmail him by threatening to reveal his extramarital activities to the public.

“Professional,” she said.
