Town Hall Meeting Fracking in Michigan, WRC Jim Nash - Hosted by Highland Twp

LOCATION: Highland Adult Activity Center

Fracking is a process which occurs after drilling, during the extraction process.  It involves the permanent contamination/destruction of millions of gallons of fresh water by the addition of numerous chemicals, many toxic, some carcinogenic, and others 'proprietary' (undisclosed).  This polluted frack-fluid cannot be recycled or reused again.

Thousands of acres within Oakland County, including Highland, have been leased for oil/gas exploration and possible drilling.  Exploration (ie; seismic testing including dynamite) has occurred and is ongoing.  This is happening, despite Oakland County's highly populated areas and number of lakes ---
the second largest number of lakes of any county in the country.

Everyone in Michigan needs to be aware, as this is not only an environmental issue, but also a health risk that involves ground water (well water) contamination, depletion of fresh water and draw-down of lakes and aquifers, plus surface contamination from spills and fracking flow-back.

On a related note, state-wide:
Currently underway, there is a petition for a ballot initiative to ban fracking in Michigan - LETSBANFRACKING.ORG
