Walled Lake Western Edges Lakeland 3-2

The Eagles play solid game, but couldn't pull off the win.

The Walled Lake Western Warriors edged Lakeland 3-2 in the KLAA opener Wednesday night. 

The first 13 minutes was a close checking game at both ends. Trent Lloyd opened the scoring for Lakeland with a goal at the 7:30 mark of the 1st period. WL Western tied the game just over a minute later with a goal by Zach Mitchell at the 6:45 mark.

The score was tied heading into the first intermission.

The second period was filled with end to end action. Andy Stevens gave the Eagles the lead with a wrist shot at the 9:03 mark of the second period. Joey Lepowski assisted on the goal to give the Eagles a 2-1 lead after two periods.

The third period was filled with penalties on both squads. Mitchell tied the game at 2-2 for WL Western at the 12:52 mark while both teams played four aside. The defenses took over the rest of the way. Kyle Hooks got the game winner for Western with 6:45 left in the game.

Lakeland record moves to to 1-3 on the season. 

The Eagles are back in action on Saturday night as they take on Hartland.
