White Lake Welcomes a Lively New Place of Worship

Epic Life Church in White Lake is in the beginning stages of growth, but the enthusiasm of the modest congregation rivals that of a long established church.

“(The service) is lively,” said Roz Barrett, member. “We make the trek all the way from Sterling Heights to come to this church because of the realness of the pastors.”

“It’s just the beginning,” said Pastor Dave Dreyer, a White Lake resident. “We only have about 40 members. My wife and I have been pastoring for 16 years and we started (this church) in our home.”

The interdenominational church meets at 10a.m. on Sundays and is open to community members of any religious background.

“We have Catholics, Lutherans and all kinds of different backgrounds,” Dave said. “We really try to pull teachings from the whole Bible. We talk about the Old Testament, the history and what Jesus has done for our lives and how our lives have been transformed. We talk about living our full potential.”

The church, located at 110 Audubon Drive off of Highland Road just west of Ormond Road, was established by Dreyer and his wife, Pastor Jill Dreyer. They offer live Christian music as an essential part of the service.

”We have the bongos, piano, guitar and harmonica,” Jill said.

The church also offers a nursery for members to leave their children while they worship and a preschool for young worshippers.

“We have a children’s ministry,” Dave said. “We have a children’s pastor on staff now. It’s called Radiant Kids. They have puppets, praise and worship, games and prizes.” Breanna Bunch, the children's pastor, graduated from Elim Bible Institute with a major in Bible and a minor in pastoral ministry.

“My favorite part is seeing the kids hearts grow for God,” Bunch said. Additionally, the church offers a youth group called Echo that meets on Mondays at 7pm.

“We also have small groups that meet during the week. We have girl’s night for the ladies and racquetball for the men. We just have a blast,” Dave said. The church has also hosted road rallies for its members and a ladies Bible study is in the beginning stages of planning. “A lot of our relationship (as a church) is that we have a good time together. We grow from there. We’re forced to grow and change when we build these (ministries).”

Both Dave and Jill grew up in interdenominational churches. Their parents are both pastors and now they are working toward growing their own church.

“We really want to see growth happen for individuals in the church,” Dave said. “We want the community to be transformed. We want to encourage marriages and make a lasting difference in the community.”

The Dreyers are planning to relocate their church in 2012 to 20113 Lone Tree Road in Highland Township.

“We are in the process of purchasing that building,” Dave said. “The renovations will take some time to complete, but we really wanted a permanent home we could call our own.”
