Today's riddle: Why did the burglar wear blue gloves? 🤔 (Answer below!)
• Wyandotte woman, son die in murder-suicide, police say (thenewsherald.com) — Wyandotte police are detailing a tragic murder-suicide in which a 67-year-old woman was fatally shot in her 6th Street home and her 41-year-old son later died by suicide during a police encounter in Toledo. Officers explain why they could not legally force entry after her initial 911 call and how license plate cameras helped track the suspect's movements.
• Environmental advocates call for Wyandotte to switch drinking water source due to pollution near Detroit River intake (planetdetroit.org) — Wyandotte's drinking water is currently meeting state and federal standards, but environmental advocates and some Downriver residents are urging the city to switch from its Detroit River intake to Great Lakes Water Authority supplies because of long-term BASF groundwater pollution nearby. State regulators have ordered infrastructure fixes, say testing shows safe levels, and would support a switch if city leaders pursue it.
• Downriver Area Soroptimists' accepting applications for scholarships (thenewsherald.com) — Wyandotte high school girls and local women can now apply for several Downriver Area Soroptimist scholarships, including a $1,000 youth volunteer award and larger education-focused grants for women supporting families. Applications are due in mid-November or January, and the group also welcomes Wyandotte women to its monthly meetings in Woodhaven.
